The Program
Classes
To give every student the best opportunity to grow in their Jewish education, classes are kept under ten students. This creates a supportive environment where children feel comfortable, can participate actively, and receive the individual attention and care they need.
Teachers
Our teachers are exceptional, genuinely caring for the well-being and educational growth of their students. It’s evident from the moment you enter a class that our teachers are excited and enthusiastic. Watching students and teachers warmly greet each other at the start of each week is a beautiful sight.
Teaching Method
We understand that after a long school day, students may find it challenging to sit through a 90-minute class. That’s why every session blends crafts, multimedia, drama, cooking, and other hands-on activities with the lesson content. This approach brings lessons to life, keeping students engaged and excited.
Communication
We strongly encourage close communication between staff and parents. A weekly newsletter is emailed to families, sharing what students have learned, news from the school, photos, and upcoming events or announcements.

Our lessons

Hebrew
Using the world-acclaimed Aleph Champ program, we teach students to read and write Hebrew in an engaging and fun way, with level progression inspired by martial arts belt colours
Aleph Bet
For students beginning to learn the Hebrew alphabet, we use the incredible Adventure with Alef program. It features engaging illustrated letters and characters, using specially designed mnemonics to excite students and help them remember the letters faster—perfectly tailored for English-speaking children
Festivals - Hands on Heritage
Gems brings the festivals to life through our hands-on heritage program. With exciting and engaging activities for each festival - from making matzah for a model Seder, to carving a horn into a shofar, and making oil for Chanukah - students experience the excitement and gain meaningful knowledge in the lead-up to every Chag
Lessons
Our curriculums feature engaging, age-appropriate lessons that bring Judaism to life. Students explore mitzvot, Jewish traditions, Israel, and Jewish history through fun, hands-on activities. Younger students learn Torah stories such as Creation, Noah’s Ark, Abraham, and more through crafts, play, activities, and storytelling, while also experiencing exciting mitzvot-based learning—exploring Shabbat, kashrut, mezuzah, and more through creative projects and baking. Older classes delve deeper into our rich Jewish history, ethics, morals, and the lives of great Jewish personalities, drawing meaningful and relevant lessons for today. Learning is interactive, creative, and designed to inspire a lasting love for Jewish life and values.

Shofar Factory
At Hebrew Gems, students experience Rosh Hashanah in a hands-on and unforgettable way. Beyond learning about the mitzvah of the shofar, they transform a raw horn into a kosher, usable shofar themselves. Watching the shofar take shape in their own hands fills students with amazement and excitement, bringing the meaning of Rosh Hashanah to life.

Former Student Bar Mitzvah
A former Hebrew Gems student celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at Chabad Glen Eira as part of our Bar Mitzvah program, marking a meaningful milestone in his Jewish journey.

Torah up close!
In honour of Shavuot, students at Hebrew Gems experience the Torah up close, turning learning into a living moment. Through meaningful, hands-on activities, children connect to the giving of the Torah in a personal and memorable way, bringing the story of Shavuot to life.

Bonfire, Story & Marshmallows
At Hebrew Gems, students experience Lag B’Omer in a truly memorable way. Gathering around a bonfire, they sing songs, share stories, and roast marshmallows, bringing this ancient tradition to life and allowing children to truly live and feel the spirit of Lag B’Omer.

"Chabad Hebrew School was the 3rd Hebrew school I sent my oldest son to and I knew that if he didn't like it there he probably wouldn't learn to read and write Hebrew. Well it did take a little bit of settling in but now he loves it. The Director was amazing with him from the word go - patient, engaging and very accommodating. My son responds well to the teachers and I truly believe that is why he now enjoys going. My younger son, who is in prep loved it from the start - the teachers, the games and learning the Hebrew alphabet - as well as the great snacks they get at the beginning of class! The director and the teachers are fantastic and have created a very special learning environment for the kids. I highly recommend Chabad Hebrew School to any child wanting to learn Hebrew and gain an appreciation of Judaism."
