Your Journey, Your Legacy
About the Bar Mitzvah Program
The Bar Mitzvah Enrichment Program at Chabad Glen Eira Gems is a fun, meaningful, and inspiring course designed to prepare boys for their Bar Mitzvah year and guide them on their journey to becoming confident, responsible young Jewish men.
Through engaging lessons and hands-on experiences, the program equips boys with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to fully embrace the responsibilities and privileges of this special stage in life.
The course covers four key areas: understanding the core of becoming Bar Mitzvah and the meaning behind Mitzvot; learning life skills rooted in Torah values to navigate teenage years; developing appreciation, compassion, and community involvement; and participating in life-changing workshops with guest presenters. Highlights include meeting Holocaust survivors, hands-on experiences with a scribe, CPR training, Krav Maga sessions, insights from Victoria Police and more - all designed to inspire, educate, and empower.
Led by Rabbi Moshe Loebenstein in an informal and welcoming setting, the program encourages questions, exploration, and personal growth.
Boys from all backgrounds and schools are welcome to join, and parents are invited to participate in key sessions.
Running Wednesday evenings during school terms, the program combines meaningful learning with fun, unforgettable experiences, ensuring your son steps confidently into his Bar Mitzvah year and beyond.

The Program
The Program is divided into four engaging units, each offering meaningful learning, life skills, and unforgettable experiences.
Unit 1 – The Core: Becoming Bar Mitzvah
In this unit, boys gain a deep understanding of what it means to become Bar Mitzvah. They explore the concept of the Neshamah (soul), the meaning behind the Mitzvot, and the responsibilities and privileges that come with this milestone.
This unit helps boys comprehend their place in the world and inspires them with purpose as young Jewish men. Students are also fascinated to learn about evidence proving that the Torah was given 3,300 years ago, connecting them to a rich and enduring tradition.
Unit 2 – Life Skills: Navigating Teenhood Through Torah's Timeless Guidance & Lessons
Boys learn essential life skills rooted in Torah values, preparing them for the challenges of their teenage years. Topics include bullying, honesty, respect, relationships, making good choices, and standing up for others.
Through engaging discussions and practical examples, boys gain confidence, guidance, and wisdom from the Torah to navigate modern life while staying true to their Jewish identity.
Unit 3 – Community, Appreciation & Compassion
This unit emphasizes the importance of giving back and appreciating what they have. Through community involvement, boys experience the satisfaction of making a positive impact on others’ lives, while developing empathy, gratitude, and a strong sense of responsibility. They learn that true leadership and maturity come from compassion and meaningful contributions to their community.
Unit 4 – Life-Changing Guest Presenters & Workshops
The final unit offers unforgettable experiences with guest presenters and workshops:
-
Gen2Gen Holocaust Program – Boys meet Holocaust survivors and honor the memory of young victims through research and remembrance bracelets.
-
Scribe / Sofer – Boys witness the intricate process of writing Torah scrolls, Tefillin, and Mezuzot, and even try writing with a scribe’s feather.
-
Hatzollah – CPR training, drug and alcohol awareness, and lessons on standing up for what is right.
-
CSG – Krav Maga & Safety – High-energy training to build awareness and self-protection skills.
-
Victoria Police – Insightful sessions comparing secular and Torah ethics, highlighting responsibilities, compassion, and the sanctity of life.
